Responsibilities

As a Controller at Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group, you’ll serve as the senior accounting leader responsible for financial integrity, accounting operations, internal controls, and compliance across the construction businesses. You’ll ensure timely and accurate financial reporting while partnering closely with Operational Finance, FP&A, Operations, Corporate Finance, and Executive Leadership to support profitable growth.

You’ll also play a critical role in integrating newly acquired businesses, modernizing financial systems, strengthening internal controls, and standardizing accounting processes across the organization. This role requires someone who can lead change while maintaining strong day-to-day accounting operations.

General Accounting & Financial Management

  • Lead all day-to-day accounting operations for the construction businesses
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies and internal controls
  • Partner with Corporate Finance to ensure timely consolidated reporting

Accounts Payable

  • Oversee the accounts payable function
  • Review and approve vendor payments and weekly check runs
  • Ensure timely payment of vendors while maximizing cash flow
  • Monitor vendor aging and resolve payment discrepancies
  • Improve AP automation and workflow efficiency
  • Maintain vendor compliance, including W-9s, certificates of insurance, and lien waiver documentation where applicable

Accounts Receivable

  • Oversee customer payment application and cash posting
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging
  • Partner with Operations regarding collections
  • Review billing accuracy with Project Accounting
  • Improve cash collections and reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)

Financial Reporting & Analysis

Partner with FP&A and Operational Finance to prepare:

  • Monthly financial statements
  • Quarterly financial reviews
  • Annual financial reporting
  • Budget variance analysis
  • Revenue-to-gross profit analysis
  • EBITDA reporting
  • Cash flow reporting
  • Executive dashboards
  • Provide meaningful analysis of financial performance and operational trends

Fixed Assets & Equipment Accounting

  • Maintain the company’s fixed asset records
  • Record additions, disposals, and transfers
  • Calculate monthly depreciation
  • Ensure all owned equipment costs are properly assigned to construction projects through partnership with Operational Finance
  • Perform periodic fixed asset inventories
  • Support capital expenditure planning

Intercompany Accounting

  • Manage all intercompany accounting transactions
  • Reconcile intercompany balances monthly
  • Coordinate transactions between Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group, Lee Kintner & Sons Group, and other North Coast Holdings entities
  • Ensure timely elimination entries for consolidation

Budgeting & Forecast Support

Partner with Operational Finance and FP&A to:

  • Develop the annual operating budget
  • Review revenue assumptions
  • Validate expense forecasts
  • Ensure the financial integrity of budgets
  • Review capital budgets
  • Support long-range planning

Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, internal controls, and tax requirements
  • Support insurance and bonding audits

Cash Management & Treasury

  • Monitor the daily cash position
  • Assist Corporate Treasury with cash forecasting
  • Review banking transactions
  • Maintain banking relationships
  • Ensure compliance with debt covenants when applicable

Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Strengthen accounting controls
  • Develop policies that reduce financial risk
  • Maintain segregation of duties
  • Review the approval authority structure
  • Identify opportunities for automation
  • Ensure compliance with Delegation of Authority policies

Leadership

  • Lead and develop the accounting team
  • Coach accounting staff and establish performance expectations
  • Build standardized accounting procedures
  • Foster collaboration with Operations and Finance

Qualifications

What You Bring:

  • 8-12+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • CPA required
  • Experience with job cost accounting
  • Experience with construction ERP systems
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP financial reporting
  • Experience developing and maintaining internal controls
  • Experience managing financial audits
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting
  • Experience supporting acquisitions and integrations

Preferred:

  • Minimum 5 years of construction accounting experience
  • Previous Controller or Assistant Controller experience
